Abstract

Bipolar disorder in later life is a complex neuropsychiatric syndrome with both diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. In this lesson, the authors review the epidimedology of the disorder and consider the benefits of various treatment methods, including psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. Because of the adverse effects of the disorder in older adults, further research and focus are a priority.
